This film documents Making In, the annual gathering of makers that takes place each September at the studio of Irish furniture maker and designer Joseph Walsh in Fartha, Co. Cork. It features conversations with Japanese sculptor Kan Yasuda, Irish musician Martin Hayes, the Marinelli family of Italian bell-makers, French architect and design historian Cloé Pitiot, American conductor Teddy Abrams, Finnish architect Kimmo Lintula, Irish chef Rory O’Connell, Irish weavers Karen Hay-Edie and Mario Sierra, Japanese stone mason Hiroyuki Tsujii and curator and writer Glenn Adamson. The film also follows the collaboration between Joseph Walsh and the leading architects Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey and a dedicated team of stonemasons who over the course of a year combined to build an innovative stone pavilion on the grounds of the studio, stretching the limits of traditional construction, merging contemporary design and traditional materials.
